The objective of ZooMaGoo, was to build an easy to use, highly scalable and very secure retail eCommerce application.
ZooMaGoo accepted all major credit cards, incorporate and managed multiple drop ship locations and warehouses, as well as coordinated via a central database with micro retail and marketing web sites.
Initially, the venture was a success. For the first two years, ZooMaGoo made a profit, offered 500 plus SKUs, and was still adding products. To refine and target the product line, ZooMagico (toys and furniture for kids) was spun off as a sister site. ZooMagico focused on marketing and selling to parents looking for educational toys and quality furniture for their children.
To manage the product listing and ordering, customer sales, shipping fulfillment, and tracking an integrated application, ZOutlet, was created. ZOutlet was designed to be the backend application that supported ZooMaGoo, ZooMagico product micro sites as well licensed out for other retail web sites to use.
By the fourth year, however, profit margins were too slim to keep pace with rising shipping costs, or to compete against online retail giants that offered free shipping, on similar products. Even the very product manufacturers themselves started to sell their products directly to customers through their own web stores.
In an attempt to keep the company profitable, ZooMagico was shut down and all products were transferred back to ZooMaGoo. A few months later ZooMaGoo closed its internet doors as well.
